I live in the Twin Cities Minnesota where there is a large population of hmong. I’m trying to learn a little to understand them when their talking around me. Your translations help but the words are not pronounced the same way they are spelled. So pronunciation would be very helpful.

Yes, we speak with metaphors. That’s when we do translate these kind of things, it’s quite hard. Sometimes translating them into english ruins the meaning behind it.

Koj keg shaw lub hmong thaib, one thing for sure, it’s hmonglish and it doesn’t make sense to me. I think, hopefully, the friend meant to say, Koj kawg sau lus hmoob thaib? = you best to write in hmong thai. Other than that, that phrase has some hmong words and some odd words that doesn’t make sense to me.

Yes, i have a following. haha. It’s ok, if you have the desire, passion to learn, you’ll get it. Hmong is pretty easy to speak and write once you get the basics down. It’s ok, take your time.
Are there any good books that you would suggest for someone that wants to learn hmong? I’ve been looking for a while. I’ve even asked my hmong friends but they are too busy.
I only have hmong dictionaries and couple hmong stories. I’m pretty sure if you go into hmong bookstores, depending where you’re from, you can find a lot. My old lady has this book where she learns english from and it’s all in Hmong for her to understand the english. It’s a very old edition though.
for online, you can go to http://hmonglessons.com/. A friend took their courses, or more like looked around and did their lessons and learned a thing or two. Also, there are youtube videos that teaches Hmong too.

While I’m Hmong, I’m ashamed to say I don’t know how to read and write in Hmong as well as I should–or ought to, ha. Well, to be fair, my parents weren’t as adamant about teaching their kids how to properly read and write in Hmong…
Anyways! I’d love if you could translate a phrase in Hmong for me–however, in the phrase, I see you’ve already translated “you’re everything,” which is fantastic because it’s part of the phrase I want to use, but in terms of putting the following phrases together in a nice sentence, I need your assistance! :
“Thank you my two mothers and father. You are everything to me.”
Now, the “You” is meant to be plural–since I’m talking to three people. I would be most utterly grateful if you could respond asap!

Now I feel silly, but I’m wondering which one sounds better and or makes the most sense.
Oh yes, it’s just a different way of saying it. “Nej yog ib puav tsav yam rau kuv.” Pick whichever one that you feel touches you more. What you have is more deep and more meaningful. What i have was just the basic, surface i guess you could say.
Alas, I have another request:
I’m wanting to say, “a flower in the field” — that is, a flower that’s in an open field with dry shrubs (hav nras). My attempt was: “ib lub paj nyob hav nras” — but I find that some articles are missing after “nyob” and “hav nras.”
Because of your exceptional prowess in the written Hmong language, would you be so kind as to help me sort this out?

What you have is also correct. Usually in phrases like this, you would use a metaphor or a simile. For example, ib lub paj nyob zoo tas li tus ntsuag nos pem hav nras.
But i’ll keep it simple. You may put, Ib lub paj nyob “pem: hav nras. Or other words such as “ntawv” “ntawv tej” “pem tej”… etc…

When it comes to translating English words to Hmong, sometimes the translation is not just one word but a whole phrase describing the english word. Hopefully this helps you.

This type of phrase, it needs either a sentenced before or after it to give out the true meaning of it. This phrase can mean a lot of things. For example, the conversation will go:
Guy: You’re quite good in sports, especially volleyball seeing that strike.
Girl: I’m not that good, i’m just playing.
Guy: no really, you’re very good.
Girl: You’re very good also = koj los yeej zoo heev ib yas.
So, depending on what the conversation was about, he/she is just saying that you are as good as they are or even better. hopefully that made sense.

You can self teach yourself. If you have “cov cim” down, which are the letters at the end of the words, you are basically good to go with writing. It’s quite simple. I’ve been wanting to do a video on it for the longest time, but i just never found the time to do it. Let me know if you need any help. I’ll be gladly to help you.

I know nyob zoo is hello, you is koj and I don’t think there even is a work for sweetie lol but as close as you can get it would be amazing.
